Additional Info/Specialties: Silvia graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music Giuseppe Verdi of Turin, Italy, where she was a student of the distinguished pianist and composer Sandro Fuga, and where she studied chamber music with the cellist of the celebrated Virtuosi of Roma. She was immediately offered the dual position of pianist with the Symphony Orchestra of Recife Brazil, and the teacher of piano and theory of the Recife Conservatory. While in Recife, Silvia co-founded the Music School Jeunesse Musicale Brazilienne where she became principal professor of music, gave frequent performances and conducted the chorus. She toured Brazil with inter- nationally renowned soloists and with the Woodwind Ensemble of the Recife Symphony, and she was official accompanist for the Recife Department of Culture. Next, in Rio de Janeiro she was official accompanist under the Ministry of Culture of Brazil, worked with the Department of Radio, and taught music theory at the American School. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1961 and settled in Virginia where she continued to devote herself to teaching, accompanying, and performing in chamber ensembles. She has taught piano and theory at the McLean Arts Center and the Academy of Musical Arts, and taught piano at Georgetown University. Currently, she teaches in her private home in a retirement community. Many of her students have won local, national and international competitions including concerto competitions leading to performances with the Alexandria Symphony, Reston Symphony, Northern Virginia Symphony, McLean Orchestra, Michigan Symphony, and the National Symphony. Silvia is a Member of Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association where she has held many offices, and is a Nationally Certified Teacher in Professional Piano Performance.
